Adjudication - Determination of entitlement under the ACT

Benefits - a payment or service available to an injured worker or dependant in relation to a compensable injury

CPP - Canada Pension Plan
CPPD - Canada Pension Plan Disability
Claims Adjudicator - a specially trained employee of the Worker's Compensation Board
Commute/commutation - the payment of a benefit by way of one amount (lump sum) rather than periodic payment of a lesser amount

FOIP - Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act

LOE - Loss of Earnings
LTD - Long Term Disability
LTI - Loss Time Injury
Loss of Earnings Benefit - a monetary amount paid to an individual suffering a wage loss due to an injury or illness
Lost Time Claim -- a claim where there is a loss of earnings beyond the day of the injury which must be medically supported
Lump Sum - a payment made in lieu of periodic payments which does not limit further consideratio0n of benefits
Labour Marker Re-Entry - re-training offered to assist an injured worker to a better form of gainful employment

MMR - Maximum Medical Recovery

NEL - Non-Economic Loss
NOC - National Occupation Classification (HRSDC and Statistics Canada
Non-Economic Loss/Impairment - workers who suffer an injury resulting in a permanent impairment may receive a monetary award for their loss of enjoyment of life

PTD - Permanent Total Disability
PDP - Permanent Disability Pension
Pension - A periodic payment usually made monthly for life to a worker or dependant due to an occupation injury or disease.

Vocational Rehabilitation - a program designed to re-establish, as much as possible, a worker's pre-accident earnings.
