WSIB N.E.L. (Non Economic Loss) Award

When an injured worker suffers a (P.I.) Permanent Impairment due to a compensable injury (work related injury), the injured worker is entitled to a NEL award. The NEL represents a lump sum of money which is given as a result of

pain and suffering. This amount is based on the age of the injured worker at the time of the accident, a government regulated monetary amount and the percentage of disability.

Workplace Safety & Insurance Board

If you suffered a work related injury and have permanent problems, you need to consult with a claims specialist prior to choosing an assessor. This is imperative to ensure that the correct dollar amount is provided to you. If you have already gone through this process, the percentage you have received may be incorrect. You may be entitled to a reassessment.

This benefit is only given to workers that were injured on or after January 1, 1990.

F.E.L. (Future Economic Loss) Award

Future Economic Loss

When an injured worker is unable to return to his pre-accident job due to his injuries sustained at work, he or she may be entitled to a FEL award. This award solely deals with the injured workers wages. For example: If an injured worker was receiving $20/hr at the time of injury, and because of the injury the injured worker cannot return to the same job and must take a less paying job at $14/hr. The Board must give a wage subsidy or a FEL award of 90% of the difference. The injured worker would be entitled to 90% of the $6/hr difference per month until he/she reaches age 65.

This benefit is only given to workers that were injured on or after January 1, 1990.

LMR (Labour Market Re-entry)

If you are unable to return to your pre-accident job, the Board may provide you with a LMR specialist who should help you in retraining you to choose a new line of work. You as an injured worker are entitled to full loss of Earning Benefits while enrolled in this program. This includes:

1. Full benefits while in program.
2. Full payment of school, courses, books, tuition, parking, mileage etc.
3. All additional upgrading courses.
4. Aptitude tests prior to taking such courses.

It is imperative that you speak with a claims specialist to ensure that you are enrolled in the correct course. If you are not, all benefits could be cut off at any point in time.

P.P.D.A. (Permanent Partial Disability Award)

This benefit is given to the injured workers that were injured prior to January 1, 1990. This is entirely different to all laws and legislation after this date.

If you have suffered a permanent impairment you should be assessed and given a Permanent Disability award. This will give you a monthly pension which is paid for life. You may be entitled to more than what you are receiving and therefore a consultation to one of our claims specialists is important. If your condition has significantly deteriorated since your last assessment, you may be entitled to an increase of your pension.

Permanent Partial Disability Award

Wage Supplement Under Section 147 (14) (4)

This wage supplement can only be offered to injured workers who were injured prior to January 1, 1990. If an injured worker, due to his/her injury, cannot recuperate his/her pre-accident earnings he/she may be entitled to these benefits. These benefits, if both given, can amount to over $600/month.

Our Claims Specialists are equipped to handle all aspects of your claim.
